The idea was simple. What was done was basically pressurised water was forced to flow through the ground coffee thus creating the cream that gives espresso coffee its character. Over the years this coffee machine evolved from one that was a piston that generated pressure controlled by a lever to a fully automatic machine that processes and delivers the coffee at the flick of a button. Soon GAGGIA began making coffee machines for domestic use. This happened in 1977 and today GAGGIA is still the market leader in this segment. The production of these machines takes place in the Robecco sul Naviglio factory in Milan. Here there is a combination or modern technology, tradition and quality. GAGGIA like all other companies have renewed and diversified their products. Their product range now has a new look that is futuristic and dynamic while keeping the GAGGIA trademark of quality intact. In 1997 the company brought out a line of steam cleaners that were multi purpose. These are product with innovative features and stress on the environment and safety. GAGGIA and Caffitaly System came together to formulate a novel way of coffee packaging. Combining GAGGIA’s experience and quality in the field of espresso making along with technology of Caffitaly Systems the GAGGIA Capsule Line – coffee packed in capsules was invented. Now 8 grams of ground coffee is available in a vacuum sealed disposable capsule which is ready to be used and make a nice cup of Italian espresso, a genuine one at that. Two of the GAGGIA espresso makers come fitted with an extraction system that gets the best out of the capsule method. This Caffitaly capsule is made in such a way that the water flows through each little coffee grain resulting in a constant flow and an excellent brew.
